Langtang-Gosaikunda-Helambu Trek

Langtang-Gosaikunda-Helambu trekking is famous trekking in this region.  This trek will take you to the holy lake Gosaikunda — Hindu’s holy lake and Sherpa village in Helambu.  This 17-day trek will give a chance to experience the beauty of nature, mountains, different animals, floras, and faunas.

You will trek places like Syabrubesi, Lama Hotel, Langtang Valley, Kyanjing Gompa, Thulo Syabru, Sing Gompa, Lauri Binayek, Gosaikunda, and Helambu.  During this trek, you will encounter a magnificent view of different snow covered mountains, bamboo forest, and rhododendron forest.  Along with that, you will also see thundering rivers and waterfalls in different places.There are few tea houses and lodges on the way to this trek.  You can take short tea/coffee break on the route and you can stay overnight in a lodge.  This is not so difficult trek route, so anyone with good health can join this trek and enjoy the beauty of nature.  There are monasteries, chortens, and prayer wheels/flags on the way in this trek.  You can enjoy your short visit here.

Upon reaching Gosaikunda, one can simply enjoy the beauty of the lake.  There are no houses in here and only a few houses back from Gosaikunda.  From there, we will trek to Helambu.  A trail is both uphill as well as downhill.  Mostly Sherpa people live in this village and the culture is mostly influenced by Sherpa culture.  There also are many monasteries in this region.  We will also trek through rice/paddy fields in Shermathang village.  We further continue our trek to reach back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary Detail

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu:
Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be heartily welcomed by our staffs.  After completion of airport duties (visas, documents, etc.), you will proceed towards the arrival gate and look for our representatives.  After that, you will be escorted to Hotel.  After checking in, you can take rest for few hours and go out for sightseeing with our guide or representatives. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02:  Kathmandu – Trek preparation.
After finishing breakfast, we start our day with sightseeing some local historical and cultural attractions near Kathmandu including Durbar Square and temples like Pashupatinath, Buddha, and Swyambhu (monkey temple).  At afternoon, we will meet our tour guide, team leader, and other members of our trip and discuss the Langtang trek where you can ask any questions regarding this trek.

Day 03:  Kathmandu to Syabrubesi drive (1,550 m):  (6-7 hours drive)
After morning breakfast, we pack our bags and drive towards the north-west of Kathmandu.  Within few hours of driving and after leaving Kathmandu valley, you will be welcomed by beautiful green hills and fields and villages.  We will take a lunch break at Trisuli Bazaar and continue our journey to reach Dhunche.  From Dhunche, we will reach Syabrubesi after few hours of drive.  We will stay in a hotel today at Syabrubesi.

Day 04:  Trek to Lama Hotel from Syabrubesi (3,430 m) (6 hours of walk):
This will be our first day of trekking.  We pack our backpacks and start our trek.  We follow the Langtang River.  We walk through forests and we have to cross several suspension bridges and pass many tea houses.  Today’s trail is a one, so one could easily walk without any difficulty.  Taking breaks for few time in between our walk, we can reach to Lama Hotel after 5-6 hours of walk.  We will stay here today.  Stay in the lodge will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 05:  Trek to Langtang Valley (3,430 m) (6-7 hours of walk):
After taking our breakfast, we will continue our trek.  We will walk through dense forests.  After walking for few hours, we will leave tree line behind and enjoy the beautiful view of Langtang Lirung.  We pass through different prayer wheels, water mills, prayer stones and multi-colored prayer flags.  Today’s trail is slightly difficult that yesterday’s.  Today’s trail is mostly climbing uphills and crossing rivers and suspension bridges.  After walking few hours, we reach beautiful Langtang Valley.  There are few houses and lodges to stay in.   Stay in lodge includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 06:  Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m) (3 hrs of walk):
After taking breakfast, we continue our trek further up to Kyanjin Gompa.   We walk through plain fields and yak pastures.  The whole valley is surrounded by different snow covered mountains.  We can enjoy these mountains through the trek up to Kyanjin Gompa.  During this walk, we will see different prayers wheels, chortens, and chant-inscribed stones.  Due to the high altitude and thin air, one might feel little short of breath and difficult to breathe or one can suffer from high altitude sickness.  So we must be careful about this while walking.  After about 3 hours of walking, we now reach Kyanjin Gompa.  You can walk around Kyanjin Gompa and enjoy the views of different mountains, glaciers after resting for few hours.  Stay in lodge includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 07:  Kyanjin Gompa rest day:
Today is the rest day and also explore day around the Kyanjin valley.  We can climb up Kyanjin Ri (4800 m) and Tserko Ri (5000 m) from where we can see the whole valley below and some beautiful view of surrounding mountains like Langtang Lirung, Kinshung Yansa, etc. and also we can see Lirung glacier.  After visiting these places we return back to Kyanjin valley and finish our lunch then explore around the valley.  An overnight stay here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 08:  Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel:  (5-6 hrs of walk):
Today, we will return back to Lama Hotel.  As the trail is mostly downhill, today’s trek will be quite easy that the previous days.  Today’s trek is accompanied by beautiful views of the forests, rivers, and mountains.  We might even see wild animals while trekking.  After 5 to 6 hours of walk, we reach Lama Hotel.  An overnight stay here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 09:  Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru:  (5-6 hrs of walk):
From Lama Hotel, we descend towards the river and walk along the bank of the river and after walking a few hours now, we ascend to Thulo Syabru.  On the way, you will see the magnificent view of Langtang and other mountain ranges.  We can take short breaks in the forest of pine and juniper forest.  After few hours of walking, we now reach Thulo Syabru.  Overnight stay here.

Day 10:  Thulo Syabru to Sing Gomba:  (4-5 hours)
Today’s trail ascends up to Dimsa village and this trail continues through the forest with different vegetations like rhododendron, oak, etc.  The trail is less steep, so it will be quite easy to walk.  While trekking, we can see the Langtang valley and Langtang Himal.  We will reach Sing Gomba after few hours of walk.  This place is popular for cheese.

Day 11:  Sing Gomba to Gosainkunda:  3-5 hours:
Today’s trail is slightly uphill and trail passes through forest covered by rhododendron.  There is red panda sanctuary in between Shin gomba and Laurebinayak to protect the endangered species.  We continue our trek further to reach Gosainkunda; a holy and sacred place for Hindu.  We will rest here for the day and explore the surrounding in the leisure time.

Day 12:  Gosainkunda to Gopte:  7-8 hours:
Today’s trail is little challenging.  The Rocky trail passes through forests and moraines.  This trail further continues and we will cross three lakes on the way and then the trail ascends to reach Laurebina La (4,609 m).  After crossing Laurebina La, we further continue our trek through pine forests filled with rhododendron trees.  The trails are rocky and little difficult to walk.  After few hours of walking, we now reach to Gopte.  Overnight here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 13:  Ghopte to Melamchi Gaon (2,560) 6-7 hours:
Today’s trek continues through the forest and continues through dry river bed to reach Kharkha.  This village is surrounded by rhododendron.  This trail further ascends through to the forest to reach Thare Pati village.  From this village, you will get a magnificent view Jugal mountain and its surrounding.  We will pass through this village and descend towards Melamchi River and again be walking slight uphill for few hours, we now reach Melamchi Gaon.  An overnight stay here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 14:  Melamchi Gaon to Tarke Gyang 5-6 hours:
This Melamchi village is full of Hyolmo community people mostly influenced by Tibetan culture and rituals.  This region is popularly known as Helambu region.  Few hours walk up to the next village, Tarke Gyang.  You will see monasteries, stone houses on each side of the narrow path, and Buddhist people with Sherpa cultures.  During today’s trek, you will see the Tibetan-influenced culture and people doing their daily activities like farming, performing daily rituals, etc.  An overnight stay here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 15:  Trek Gyang to Sermathang (2,610 m) 4-5 hours:
Today’s trail continues through forest and you will witness a beautiful view of a village in this region.  We may also encounter different animals and plants while trekking in this region.  In this village, people practice Drukpa Kagyu (a part of Buddhism), which is also the national religion of Bhutan.  We can reach here after few hours of walk.  An overnight stay here includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 16:  Sermathang to Melamchi Bazar to Kathmandu: 3-4 hours:
We can either take a bus ride to reach Melamchi Bazar or we can opt to walk from Sermathang to Melamchi Bazar.  It will take about 2 hours by bus to reach Melamchi Bazar.  While traveling this route, we can see many Sherpa people and village doing their daily activities.  After reaching bazaar, we rest for a while and catch another bus to reach Kathmandu in about 2 hours.  Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can rest for the whole day or go for some sightseeing or shopping and at evening, we will have a farewell dinner together and share our experience about this tour.  Overnight in Kathmandu includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 17:  Final day:
Final departure:  Today will be your last day here in Nepal.  You can still do some last moment shopping or local sightseeing if there is any leisure time left.  And approximately 3 hours before scheduled flight, our representative will escort you to the airport.
